This piece came from a time in my life when a friend of mine was being stalked and harassed and I felt powerless to help. To me it’s not just something to ward off evil. There are plenty of protection symbols out there that I could use, crosses to ward off vampires, for example. But this is an eye, which means it can see. So not only is it a shield from the negativity and hurt of the world, it is an identifier. It allows us to see clearly, so we can name what isn’t good and face it. And we all know at the root of evil is cowardice.
